Business Process Mapping

Client Situation

Client is a global media company operating in over 30 countries. The company operates across several platforms including television, magazines, music, book publishing and research. The company has grown and expanded into its different platforms through a combination of organic growth, business partnerships, joint ventures and acquisitions to become one of the largest content production companies in the industry with over 2000 employees worldwide.

Background

The Company had a collection of both commercial and homegrown proprietary software applications supporting its business operations. Because of its growth, there were, in some cases, multiple applications supporting the same function as well as some business functions being under supported with significant manual work-arounds in place.

Objectives & Scope

PIP was engaged to map the company’s current business processes and to assess the company’s current application stack against the processes to identify any process gaps or unmet needs. Develop an end-to-end future state process map covering all key business processes including HR, sales, finance, operations and analytics/reporting. Develop a future state application portfolio roadmap and action plan outlining activities, costs and timelines to completion. Though this process, PIP helped the Client to answer:

  • What are the specific gaps in the capabilities of the core applications today?
  • What new requirement will need to be addressed?
  • Are the current applications able to meet the Company’s future requirements?
  • What is the logical order and timing for transitioning components of the application portfolio?
  • What risks may be introduced based on the go-forward strategy? What mitigation activities can be contemplated to reduce that risk?
